Iceland 2007
Reykjavik ~ 24-27 May 2007
More than 200 Members attended the meeting in Reykjavik at the end of May, and were able to experience:
- Icelandic hospitality, which was warm and friendly,
- Renewing of OB-PS friendships,
A taste of Scouting in Iceland through hearing about projects they are doing, - An update of what WAGGGS is doing with funds provided, through the current World Board Chairman, Elspeth Henderson, the new WAGGGS Chief Executive, Mary McPhail and, Conny Wolf, a young woman from a girls-only organization in Germany,
- Some wonderful opportunities to see both local sights, and some further afield on pre-arranged tours.
Thirty-eight members received their insignia and certificates from HRH Princess Benedikte, bringing total membership to 815.
At the Members’ dinner we were delightfully entertained by a pianist, opera singers, and a Scouting choir, showing the talents and skills within the relatively small Icelandic community.
The final activity was a visit to the Blue Lagoon Spa – where most of the members took the opportunity to bath in the huge warm lake and enjoy the sunshine and volcanic scenery.
Thanks to all those who worked so hard to make it a very successful Event.
