Princess Benedikte Award

We are fortunate that many of our members have made, or will make, generous donations to WAGGGS. Those who donate a cumulative total of at least £25,000 are recognized with the presentation of the Princess Benedikte Award.

During the Society’s 2006 Annual Meeting in India, at a Gala Dinner in Mumbai, we presented the first three of these awards to members from Denmark and the United Kingdom who had very strong connections with Guiding and Scouting.

It gave me great pleasure to present the first of the Princess Benedikte Awards and I hope that I will be presenting many more awards in the future!

HRH Princess Benedikte of Denmark
Princess Benedikte’s wishes have come true, and in 2007 another 6 awards were given.  At the Society’s Annual Event in Iceland, during the Members’ Dinner, three members were presented with the award. Two of those members, from the United States, had a long-standing involvement in Guiding and the third member, from Denmark, had gifted his three children with OB-PS membership, following in the footsteps of his wife who was also a member of the Society.

The Princess Benedikte Award is usually presented at the Society’s Annual Event but special Presentation Ceremonies can be arranged when members are unable to attend such meetings.

This is how in August, last year, a small ceremony was arranged at the Christian VIIIs Palace, Amalienborg, for a founder member from the United Arab Emirates.  A special ceremony was also organized at the Danish Consulate in Helsinki for two Finnish members who have given lifetime support to Guiding.

This year three more members from Denmark and the USA have been presented with this prestigious award.
