OB-PS funds three WAGGGS participants to COP15

TweCOP15nty-three people from seven developing countries and six developed countries attended the United Nations climate change conference (COP15) as part of the WAGGGS delegation.  OB-PS fully funded the participation of three young women: Ostara Schwarz from Germany, Miriam Otieno from Kenya, and Nanees Diaa El-Din Monir Refaat from Egypt. 

My day was fantabulus!” Miriam exclaimed when she arrived back at the Holmen Scout Center in Copenhagen after a full day of workshops and seminars at the Conference of Youth (COY). About 400 young people from all over the world participated. Climate change is a concern for every youth in the world. It was very impressive to discuss strategies to address climate change. 

On Sunday 13 December, the whole delegation, along with the WOSM delegation, Princess Benediktewelcomed HRH Princess Benedikte of Denmark, Patron of the Society at the climate camp in Copenhagen. It was very impressive to see the power of Guides and Scouts come together to address the issue of climate change with one voice.

All participants will continue to reflect on their experiences at COP15, finish their project summaries and COP15 reports, and strategize plans of action of how to engage gheir fellow Girl Guides, Girl Scouts, and communities in their own countries on climate change issues.
